Early...

via golikeafox.com
It's just before 6:00 am...
I think I just shut off my alarm, but I'm to tired to realize it. My pillow begs me to stay, but I crawl out of bed and make my way through the darkness. I find my way into my workout cloths; it's complicated somehow in the dark. Can't think yet...maybe I'm brushing my teeth...I truly can't say. I never turn on any lights when I'm up this early because then my body would have to commit to being awake. I unhook my bike from it's stand and make my way to the front door. I steady my two wheel transport with one hand and open the door to my apartment. The florescent lights from the hallway come screaming in...it's blinding. I can't remember what I am doing for a moment. As I make my way down the stairs my body and mind beg me to return to the sanctity of my bed. But I can't, I must...go to the park. I gotta be ready to ride 42 miles.
I open the front door to my apartment building and immediately feel the cool air from a world that is not yet awake. Nothings up yet, it's almost silent. There are no bird chirping or city clanking sounds. In the distance though, a low bass hums for the incoming commuter traffic can almost be heard. I walk my bike to the park in the dark. I don't have lights on my bike yet, so I can't risk riding the streets when it's before dawn. I wonder past the tired shop keeper opening his store. He notices me for a moment and then returns to his ritual of pushing up the store gates.
I arrive at the park and wonder what I am doing there. I am "cold and tired and this is hard." I stand next to the bike path for a minute. The night is just moving on and the black sky is turning a deep blue. I get on my bike and start to peddle slowly. I don't go very fast to start. I have to build into a ride, especially when I am this tired. The park is an odd place at this hour. It's trees seem spooky and beautiful all at the same time; the branches stretch like fingers weaving shadowy puzzles on the park bike path. I get to get to the first turn of the park still moving very slow. But an odd feeling soon comes over me. Some faint noise clicks somewhere nearby. The sound seem to echo from everywhere. I stop peddling for a moment and listen. All at once four bikers in matching outfits zip past me. They are so fast, almost like mist in the air. They are one with their bikes, like a mechanical Centaurs. They move in perfect sync down the path. They seem driven and brilliant blazing away from me. They are not like me, they didn't need to force themselves to wake up early.
I am starting wake now, heading up a giant hill in the park. I gotta get up this hill. I gotta get past being tired. My legs go from tight and weak to fluid and strong. My speed starts to pick up even as the path angle gets steeper. My arms tense and my eyes focus as I reach the precipice of the hill. At the top and the sun final comes up. It's beam cuts through the dark sky and somehow there are more people gliding down the hill with me. They are tired from pushing themselves up the hill, but they have the look of utter satisfaction from their accomplished. Their not fancy in their attire and their bikes are just two wheels like mine, nothing special. They ride and we ride. It's 6:45am and I may have to go to work at some point, but another loop around the park is all I can think about.

A Rant: The Last Stand-Healthcare

So Obama supposedly is giving his last speech on Healthcare today...really? Is anyone else tired of the news making this bill our only hope for our future; And implying that this bill will never change or be ratified in anyway for a billion years?
The News need to shut the hell up!
Let's be clear...this is not the last bill on Healthcare and the bill they have kinda(really) sucks, so let's hope it get modified sooner than later. This bill is an uphill battle, but it's uphill cause of special interest bastards that don't like change. Special interest assholes that say "who will pay for this" while they spend tax payer dollars on corporate protection, vote for things because they got bribes/gifts, or have small special interest that help very little and very few.
ahhhhh!...it's hard not to just through things when listening to government discuss issues such as Health Care, Gay (human) Rights, or Education.
Our culture will never be perfect, but we really have to just ignore stupidity when trying to do what's right.
What is the purpose of Government other than to help build a better society? A society that makes its' citizens smarter and stronger; A society that is "for the people, by the people". It's time to cut out the noise and do what is better for us as humans. Send a note to your government rep. and ask them this: "does it not help if citizens are smarter, does it not help if citizens are stronger, and if citizens can be given treatment to be even smarter and stronger then why not do so?"

Oh and call your local News Stations and tell them to "Shut the Hell Up and start reporting the news not sensationalizing it!"

The Internet Destroys All My Ideas

So my lady and I have agreed that we are not really 'breeders', but if we did have a kid we'd name it after the greatest Transformer ever. I thought we were brilliant for choosing such a great name for our fictional child and although I told everyone I ever met about this great name, I assumed that no one else would ever use it. I even went so far as to agree with my lady that a pet we have or android child I built would have this poetic name. Well, damn it, there's this blasted thing called this internet and it turns out people out there have the same (or like to steal) ideas for child's name that we do. And to make it worse there's a damn facebook page for it:

Damn you internet! Let me have one original thought! (*Shakes Fist At Computer Screen)

A Ride with John and his Franken-bike

It's 3:30p on one of the first perfect picturesque days of 2010. I met John at Grand Army plaza to do a little spin around the park. John road down from Williamsberg to meet me. He brought his infamous Franken-bike. (The bike is truly made for him.) John is like the nicest guy in the world and really fun to ride with. I always think of John in a halloween costume he wore one year. He dressed as Mr. Abraham Lincoln, which is a good way to think of John. He's really nice, very honorable, and always willing to offer support. Not even 5 minutes into meeting up he spoke of a new space for 'us' to hold TeamFox events. It's wonderful to have such a great guy on the Team. This particular day was his 2nd day on his bike this year. He really rocked it and was quite humorous when we hit the grueling hill on the Prospect Park loop. Here is a few images of John and his Franken-bike. If you see John as a super hero in the photos, then your seeing John as he really is.

I have some video of John that will be posted later.

Pinball with your mind

When I was a child I use to play on my parents crap computer. I always hated how slow everything was; mostly cause at the time I sucked at typing. I wanted an easier way to interface with the computer. So I put pen to page and sketched up an image with a guy wearing a helmet with little dots all over it and wires coming out of parts of it. These wires then ran into a small box and then into the computer. I brought the drawing into my mom after it was complete. She looked at it and said "what's that". I reply "this is a mind reading device, so you can control a computer with your mind." She looked at me and said "neat.?" and went about her day. For years I have talked about this device with people that would listen, but mostly no one would. Even within the last year I started looking for where I had put the original drawing, so that I could actually build it. I wanted to use it as a way for people who could not move or even for other species to write words without having to type. Well a German company has been working on mind reading machines and they have come up with a pretty cool pinball game. It's doesn't do everything yet, but the head piece looks exactly like the one I sketched. Sometimes I wonder if I was smarter as a kid and never did anything about it cause people thought I was crazy. Oh well. Here's the future...

Kid Controls the Blue Skies

On road trips when I was little I would sometimes get the chance to talk on the CB radio. I never talked to truckers or anyone I didn't know, just the other vehicle in our caravan. Although it seemed super special at the time it had no barring on getting to our destination, nor ever had any potential for danger. This is very different for what happened at least once at JFK International Airport. Seems an it was 'Bring Your Kid to Work Day' and some parent thought it'd be cute to have some child talking to pilots as they circled JFK. I can't imagine anything wrong with this situation can you? I mean what could possibly go wrong and why should this concern the FAA? Right?
